The Tree of Life. The Vitamin Tree. The Never-Die Tree.
The Moringa Tree is so beloved throughout Asia that these are the kinds of nicknames it's picked up over the centuries.
Moringa is native to South Asia and has been valued for hundreds of years for its multitude of health benefits. Almost every part of this tree is edible and nutrient-rich. It's a staple in curries, soups and chutneys throughout India, and the seeds are used for water purification in Ethiopia and Sudan. It's beloved everywhere from the Philippines to Latin America.
Moringa is packed with vitamins and minerals, including iron, potassium, riboflavin and vitamins A, B6 and C. It's also rich in antioxidants beyond vitamin C, including beta-carotene, quercetin and chlorogenic acid. It's also an excellent plant-based protein, and it's known to work as an anti-inflammatory, a digestive aid, and even to lower blood sugar and cholesterol. It's also known as a galactagogue- which means it increases a nursing mother's milk supply.
In short- it is a super food.
Anna Cherubini is a chef, caterer and entrepreneur originally from the Philippines. She began Belly Bliss Catering in 2008, bringing healthy, organic comfort food to events and dining rooms across Los Angeles.
After her son Leon was born in 2010, Anna found herself balancing the demands of work and motherhood with no nearby family to help. "It was definitely a happy yet isolating time," she says. "I didn't know much about caring for a newborn but I knew that if I can be efficient at breastfeeding Leon then I must be doing something right."
Growing up in the Philippines, Anna saw first-hand that mothers relied on Moringa to sustain milk production and boost their immune systems. She began incorporating it into her own diet and saw remarkable results. Being the chef and entrepreneur that she is - Anna began finding delicious new ways to share the health benefits of Moringa, at first for herself as a nursing mom and now for everyone.
She honors her homeland and motherhood in the name by choosing the Tagalog words "Anak" which means "child," and "Ko," which means "my," into ANAKO or "my child."
Filipinos are some of the most generous, hospitable and fun loving people. They value family above all and despite all the natural calamities and disasters that ravage their way, the smile on their faces is always there. The Moringa we use in all our Anako products is from a village in Palawan, Phlippines. Helping the village through donating a portion of our profits will go a long way for these folks. Thank you for supporting Anako and being a part of being able to give back and share what we have.
